We have had fun and games during NAIDOC week. The theme of this years NAIDOC celebration is 'Our languages matter'. We learnt the words for the song head, shoulders, knees and toes in Dhurga, the local Aboriginal language.
We read the dreamtime story of the Rainbow Snake and each made a section of a snake and used seeds to create patterns on it. Our snake looked fantastic when it was assembled.
We played some traditional indigenous games during our Fundamental Movement Skills session and a game called Kolap during maths. We also painted and assembled leaves in groups of 2. We are learning to count by 2's.
We read an Indigenous book about making Johnny cakes and then cooked them ourselves. They were delicious!
The week of celebration of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Islander people culminated in our performance at the NAIDOC assembly. Please enjoy the slide show below.... and the videos of our assembly performances.
