We enjoyed a wonderful brisk walk to Banksia village yesterday where we shared two of our favourite festive songs: I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas and Peace in My Fingers. Our Kindergarten students sang just beautifully and the gathered crowd of residents thoroughly enjoyed it - especially the delivery of love at the end. The children enjoyed an icepole treat from Banksia before we headed back to school. You can hear these songs at our K/1 Christmas assembly on Friday in the school hall from 11:40am - all welcome!

For our last STEM session of the year, we made our way up to the Year 6 classrooms to take a look at one of their STEM challenges - a marble run! Our Kindergarten students were delighted to see that STEM works the same way whether you are in Kindergarten or Year 6 - Criteria, Cooperation, Creativity and Problem Solving. After viewing the awesome marble runs, we went back to Kindergarten and made whatever we liked. There was a wonderful array of creations - stethoscopes, trains, buses, community drum kits and even our own marble runs! It was a lovely way to finish the year of STEM. Dear Parents,
Kindergarten students will not be attending the Presentation Day Assembly as they do not receive any awards and it gives a little more space for the other students to sit more comfortably. Thank you. A few months back, KW submitted an application to win a new Active Panel board for the classroom. Take a look at our fun video submission below... Last week, we were fortunate to have a HUGE box arrive - with a new board inside!! A big thank you goes out to Mr Hounsell and Mr Dallas for getting the board up and going.. and to KW for their hard work. The new board is wonderful! Inspired by the visit from the Lyneham High School Yr 7 concert band, kindergarten made instruments this week! We looked at how instruments made sounds - by air being blown into them and across them, vibrating with reeds and moving through brass instruments, to instruments that are strummed and those that are struck... then we went for it! Check out our creative instruments below. We were fortunate to have a visit from the talented year 7 students from the Lyneham High School band. Their performance was both entertaining and informative and our students just LOVED listening to them. They played some songs we knew and some new ones, and we even managed to have a little dance in our seats! Our first challenge this week was to transform a piece of paper into a 3D shape - a cone. The children thought long and hard about how to do this, and there were quite a few variations of cones that emerged. Once this had been achieved, challenge number two was to transform their cone shapes into something. The creativity and independent problem solving skills of our Kindergarten students continues to amaze us each week - take a look at what they came up with, below! We had icecreams, volcanoes, a princess hat, a traffic cone, a mega-phone, ball and cup games, horns - even a letter box! |
